The oldest toy store in America is not a destination I ever expected to visit, but it’s worth going just for the entertainment. Throughout FAO Schwarz there are staff posing as magicians and super heroes or simply as toy aficionados, and they make everything look amazing. There were giant fish swimming through the air, aerodynamic planes that returned to your hand no matter which direction you threw them, and – my favorite – magic lights that appeared and disappeared as you pinched your finger & thumb together. Everyone seemed so happy – which could have been the pure joy of toys – or maybe it was because people really do have gummy bears for breakfast…!
