Little Italy in Manhattan is seeing something of a renaissance after years of losing position to Chinatown. ( Watch this space. ) But if you want to experience classic Italian America, as it has existed for the past 3 generations, go out to Arthur Street in the Bronx. There the same families are still making pasta by hand, filling cannoli’s to order, cheerfully handing out samples of fabulous cheese and prosciutto, and serving the best coffee outside of Lucia’s in the Adelaide Central Market.
