Ping Pong is still the rage here, and a chance encounter with ( our ) table’s designer in Tompkins Square Park on the weekend gave news that two new table/sculptures are about to be installed in Riverside Park. Another is ordered for Sydney in 2012, so best polish up on your game in readiness. In fact it doesn’t end there. The Standard Hotel, a trendy addition to the West Village and an architectural feat being built over the Hi-Line, has a couple of regular tables in their beer garden. Looks like pool tables are out and ping pong is in. But someone will have to come up with a replacement tag for ‘pool shark’, ping pong shark just doesn’t seem to cut it!
