Good morning! I just woke to hear your report from Istanbul, and it sounds wonderful. Two of my four boys at various times have been there with their loves and none of them mentioned the smells and the silence! They did go to the impressive catacombs, so I hope you go there, too. DO visit the “metal church” in Istanbul (take a ferry)! We last drove from Ankara to Istanbul in ’91, during Ramadam! On the Black Sea they let off an old canon to signify the end of day’s fast – we hit the deck!! In another part a drummer did his obvious “thing” @ 3.am to waken all to have breakfast before their fast!! Isn’t it magic to waken to the call to prayer each day? The Turks just luurve Aussies!! Read that poem in Anzac Cove to our & Turkish “fallen” – so moving. Love your work!

what a treat lying in my bed at 3am this morning listening to you reporting from Istanbul !…..i could smell the jasmine and heady spices you were describing and almost taste the flavour of those scrumptious turkish delights ! enjoy your train trip south and hopefully it will give you time to absorb all the wonderful sights and to catch up on your blog which is eagerly awaited !

Thanks for listening Chrissy – saw some dolphins in the harbour in Istanbul when we took the ferry from the European to the Asian side. I wonder if they were related to those I saw in Hervey Bay a few years ago….?!
Hi Fitzy, I have a NY question… have you been to the hanging Gardens? Heard a radio programme about them – they sound fascinating. I’m there from June 4 YAY!
Hey Janet- the Hanging Gardens is another name for the High Line on the West side. This is definitely worth visiting. It used to be an elevated train line that went into ruin until being beautifully restored and transformed into a very unique garden above street level. Runs from the Meat Packing district up to 33rd. One of the great things is that the garden features plants that planted themselves during the time of neglect, so the wild plants have come home as it were. NYC awaits you….!
